It appears that he didn't write it to influence adults to become democrats, or to influence children to become democrats, or even to influence children to become democrats when they are adults (he said that a child when grown up wouldn't believe the elephant almost trampling the baby squirrels represents a republican, like children when grown up don't believe stepmother's are evil- to which I say: He clearly doesn't have a step-mother). At that point in the conversation, it occurred to me that the only option left was that he wrote the book to stir controversy.
