The job

I've had a nice, long break. It's been really great, especially the past two months when I really was able to relax and enjoy it.

Not that all I did was relax, as previous posts will attest.

There was a relaxation of spirit that I just didn't have the first few months. But around October or November, we gradually stopped worrying (for the most part). I guess we'd passed through the beginning stages of grief--denial, anger, bargaining, depression--and had finally come to acceptance. We really did go through a grieving process--grief for our plan, which we were so proud of; grief for our loss of security; grief over our future and our dreams.

But as I said before, this job seems like it's going to be worth all those months of uncertainty and confusion. My new boss is relatively flexible with my arrival time, and that is huge. HUGE. That's such a psychological burden lifted. All the people in the office are friendly and helpful. I've also already met with several students, and even the situations that were a little more difficult were--dare I say it?--fun. I really enjoy every aspect of what I've done so far. I enjoy running the numbers as I review the audit and figure up how the hours stack up (done, in progress, left to do). As I told my (bookkeeper) mom, every time my numbers add up, there's that satisfaction of balancing the checkbook in Quickbooks: ching! Success! And then there's the problem-solving of figuring out which class is going to fit in the student's requirements and also keep them interested. Then there's interacting with the students themselves, which is great. I also really like the way the office organizes the appointments, with built-in time to prepare and document everything.

You guys, this seems like it's going to be really great. I'm excited about my job!

So excited, in fact, that I'm seriously considering getting my Master's. I figure if I stay in this job long enough, a Master's degree will only help me. And I get tuition remission, which is obviously a huge perk. I'm serious enough about it that I've begun to study for the GRE and am considering taking it in March, during Spring Break.

And just think. A few months ago, I couldn't wait to be done with school.
