The need to quantify

I've been feeling frustrated about my "summer off." There is so much I want to do--so much--and I often feel there just isn't enough time. Add in the school work I've had to do, and there are some days when I feel just as overwhelmed as I did when I was working.

But I just 'cleaned' my electronic to-do list and discovered I have done far more than I realized this summer. In the past month I have:
  • created from scratch a unit on Julie of the Wolves
  • taught a lesson from said unit
  • moved my computer and books from my corner of the living room back to the desk
  • cleaned off/out the desk
  • rearranged some furniture in the living room so the exercise bike is no longer the first thing you see when you walk in the house
  • cleaned out/rearranged the upstairs closet
  • cleaned out my closet--it's a walk-in again!
  • painted the hallway (pictures upcoming)
  • recovered two chairs (pictures upcoming)
  • done lots of laundry
  • resumed work on my novel (this is a big part of what I want to work on this summer--WRITING)

Now that's pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Still on the list:
  • paint the hallway trim
  • paint the kitchen (walls and . . . *dunh-dunh-dunh* cabinets)
  • paint the laundry room (?) I have LOTS of left over paint from the hallway and this room has unfinished sheetrock in it
  • various sewing projects, possibly including a simple, large-square quilt for Aaron
  • much more writing and some submitting
  • find a job

I know I will not get all of this done, so it becomes a matter of prioritizing. And then I get frustrated when stupid school work pops up. So I find myself needing to quantify. And then I feel a little bit better.

AND you have worked in your yard! Looks to me like you've accomplished a lot!

Completely unrelated to this post: I've just had a chance to visit here in a week, and I love the new layout.

Ooh! Yes, the yard! I forgot about that.

Thanks, Angie. I really like it, too! I'm glad Blogger finally expanded the options.
